No Brasil, a Lei do Feminicídio, de 2015, estabelece que, quando o homicídio é cometido contra uma mulher, a pena é maior. De acordo com o Mapa da Violência de 2015, último levantamento quantitativo nacional sobre o assunto, o Brasil é considerado o 5º país do mundo com maior número de feminicídios.
